Sustainable PV Solutions for Flat Roofing Systems

The architecturally striking campus at Stevenston, featuring a ribbon effect roof, offers a range of classroom settings as well as a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, and a soft-play area - all providing an educational experience to children with a diverse range of additional support needs.
Bauder worked alongside both Norr Consultants and Morrison Construction to meet the client requirement of flat roof waterproofing as well as a sustainable energy source in the form of solar PV panels. Main contractors, Morrison Construction, bought into the risk-averse, zero-ballast, zero-penetration solution that the BauderSOLAR system offers.

A 50.02 kWp system was installed at ASN Stevenston utilising the extremely lightweight BauderSOLAR mounting system. The unique solution uses prefabricated welding sleeves that are bonded to the roof, securing the PV mounting system in place and ensuring a zero-ballast and penetration free system that minimises risk for the end client.

The PV installation was carried out by Bauder approved contractor Photon Energy who worked in partnership with Q9, Bauder approved contractor. A total of 122 x JA Solar 410w panels were installed to help achieve the planning conditions for site sourced renewables. Photon had to co-ordinate their works in tandem with the roofing programme which meant that the PV installation was delivered in two parts. This was due to the East and West facing roof profiles being finished months apart.

“Bauder and Q9 maintained excellent technical support throughout the project, always responded swiftly to any technical questions and provided comprehensive solutions”.
Kenny Stewart, Design Manager at Morrison Construction, Glasgow.
