Bituminous Roof Systems - Bauder Total Roof System
Bauder Total Roof System (BTRS) is suitable for a variety of applications on both new build and refurbishment projects. It can be used in warm, cold, and inverted roof scenarios. There is also the option of using a root resistant cap sheet, making this waterproofing system ideal for
green roof situations, too.
Below is an overview of the key features and benefits of Bauder Total Roof System, but if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to
get in touch.
When to specify BTRS
Bauder’s long-established and fully integrated bituminous roof systems incorporate modified bitumen membranes and high-performance insulation. Bauder manufactures all of its membranes and insulations to exacting specifications and tolerances, ensuring full compatibility of the components used within the system build-up. The systems are durable and robust, making them the perfect solution for most projects.
BBA certification is granted for the BTRS system. We also have BBA certification when the system incorporates our Plant E cap sheet for root resistant green roof waterproofing, so safety and quality materials are guaranteed. In addition, our BTRS system holds
fire classification BROOF(t4) for compliance with building regulations under TS 1187 test method 4 for external fire exposure to roofs, and verified by the BBA, BTRS is deemed ‘unrestricted’ and suitable for use on any part of a roof.
Key features
Here are some of the key features of the BTRS system:
Benefits
There are many benefits to the BTRS system. A few are highlighted below:
- Heavy duty, robust, and extremely tough
- A service life in excess of 35 years as stated in BBA Certificate 10/4744
- Option of root-resistant cap sheet for green roofs
Plus:
- The membrane resists impact and tearing
- BTRS satisfies requirements of Part B of Building Regulations.
Cap sheet colours
The cap sheet colours available for our BTRS system are natural slate, charcoal grey, brown and green.

Sustainability is important at Bauder, from our materials to manufacturing process. BTRS has the following environmental credentials to help meet our aim of reducing raw material usage, waste, and emissions:
- Reinforcement used in capping sheet is made from recycled polyester
- Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for bitumen membranes and insulations
- The Eco Platform accreditation is recognised by the BRE as valid and transferrable environmental documentation towards obtaining BREEAM credits within their assessment process for BREEAM UK New Construction 2018
- Bauder insulation is CFC and HCFC free with zero ODP
- BRE Green Guide Generic A Rating for PIR insulation Element No 1415320205
- Manufacturing offcuts of waste bituminous membranes are shredded and recycled back into production
- Manufacturing offcuts of PIR are shredded and recycled for use in hand cleansers and decking material
- Our manufacturing factories operate an Environmental Management System that has been certified to be in accordance with ISO 14001 2015 and ISO 50001 2011 for Energy Management
Installation and maintenance
The quality and experience of an installing operative is a vital part of a successful project. Bauder Approved Contractors are the only people fully trained and certified to install our products. They provide the necessary experience that our exceptional standards demand.

Torch-Free Detailing Methods

Our torch-free detail design specifically delivers secure safe application techniques in the vicinity of combustible construction materials located on, or connected to, the roof. This includes timber substrates or upstands; abutments to cladding, roof tiles, slates or thatch; or even debris such as dry leaf material that is at risk of ignition. The application methods meet
NFRC Guidance Document 'Safe2Torch'.
