Ability to add more layers at end of lifecycle

  • Extends lifespan of waterproofing as additional layers can be added at the end of serviceable life
  • Extends life or roof and supports building lifetime

Compatible with a variety of insulations

Rain noise tested

(BS EN ISO 140 – 18:2006)
  • The Bauder Total Roof System on a metal deck has been tested to determine the sound intensity level within the building during heavy rainfall. A figure of 48.9dB LIA was achieved, which is sufficient to gain a credit under certain BREEAM assessments.

Guarantee available

  • A range of guarantees are available to suit project requirements

BBA Certified and achieves BROOF (t4)

  • Independently tested and confirmed performance characteristics
  • Certain systems achieve BROOF (t4) as stated on the BBA certificate. We do have further system testing which may not be stated on the BBA certificate, so please contact us for further information.
  • Proven external fire performance for flat roof applications

Environmental credentials

  • Bitumen is a bi-product of oil refining and is essentially the waste material of this petrochemical process and therefore has little additional detrimental effect on the environment
  • Bauder utilises a shredder to recycle any offcuts and waste bituminous membranes back into production
  • BRE Green Guide Generic A+ rating for warm roof on a plywood or profiled steel deck
  • Bauder insulation is CFC & HCFC free with zero ODP (ozone depletion potential)
  • BRE Green Guide gives PIR insulation a generic A rating

CE Marking

  • All membranes and insulations carry a CE mark as required by the Construction Products Regulations

Why bituminous systems?

A key advantage of bituminous roofing membrane systems is the exceptionally long lifespan. They require little upkeep over the years, although annual maintenance is recommended to extend its lifespan. These systems can sustain heavy foot traffic as well as loads associated with installation and maintenance and permanently sited rooftop plant.

Bauder works hard to ensure all products meet the latest criteria for various accreditations.

Installation and maintenance

These systems are installed using a few different methods. Self Adhesive Bitumen installation involving heat-activated 'DUO' technology, hot air welding techniques or adhesive bonding with PIR flat board insulation to provide solutions that are durable, resilient to the natural elements and give excellent fire resistance. Bauder Approved Contractors are the only people fully trained and certified to install our products, providing the necessary experience that our exceptional guarantee demands.

To keep the roof in prime condition, practical maintenance should be carried out. This includes:

  • Cutting back tree limbs that overhang the roof to give a 1 metre clearance outside the roof edge. This will significantly reduce blockage of drainage ways due to fallen leaves.
  • Removal of any vegetation growth that may have occurred, taking care not to damage the waterproofing.
  • Ensuring that any items of plant/equipment that may have been introduced to the roof are sited on suitable isolated slabs, with additional surface protection beneath, and that any fixings that may have been used to secure them, do not penetrate the waterproofing.

Green credentials

Bituminous roofing systems can be used for green roofs with a root resistant cap sheet which stops the roots from penetrating the waterproofing system. The membranes are made from bitumen and polyester.

The BRE Green Guide to Specification gives our bituminous systems various generic ratings, depending on the type of deck construction and the support structure used. You can view the various different ratings in our Bitumen Systems Brochure.

Within our bitumen membrane waterproofing systems we have the following EPD certificates for our membranes and PIR insulation:

  • Bitumen Membranes S-P-00414
  • PU Insulation - Mineral Fleece Facing EPD-IVP-20140206-IBE1-EN
  • PU Insulation - Aluminium Facing EPD-IVP-20140207-IBE1-EN
Our products in practice: we are committed to reducing the impact our manufacturing has on the environment as well as how our products can support the environment through the reduction of energy usage, recycling and reusing.

The BauderPIR insulation has extremely high thermal efficiency and is CFC and HCFC free. It has zero ODP. As part of our PIR insulation manufacturing process, offcuts and waste are readily recycled and used in the production of hand cleansers and decking materials.

The reinforcement fleece within our bitumen membranes is made from 250g/m2 recycled spunbond polyester for high tensile strength. Bitumen is the primary raw material used in the production of bituminous waterproofing membranes. It is a byproduct of oil refining and is essentially the waste material of this petrochemical process and therefore has little additional detrimental effect on the environment.

We utilise a shredder to recycle any offcuts, and waste bituminous membranes back into production. When roofs are replaced, the bituminous layers can be incinerated for heating and electricity production
