How we plan to minimise our impacts
As a leading manufacturer within the roofing industry, we understand our responsibility towards creating a better natural environment for all.
We are continually striving to reduce the environmental impact of our business activities and make our contribution to the UK and European climate goals. By producing efficiently and conserving resources, closing raw material cycles, and switching over to renewable energy sources, we will reduce our ecological footprint.
Our plan for achieving net zero is unique to us and our specific operational set up. Any plans must start with truly understanding our impact, and so we began with our first carbon footprint assessment in 2021 and this continues to be adapted and developed annually.
With this knowledge we are able to identify pathways to continually reduce our carbon emissions, optimise our supply chain and engage transparently with all stakeholders, including employees, customers and the broader community.
Together, we can mitigate the impacts of climate change and build a more resilient and prosperous world for generations to come.
For further information on our climate impact, along with an overview of our current projects, please see our annual Organisational Carbon Footprint Report which can be found at the bottom of the page.
Managing our business impacts on the environment
It is important for us to act in a way that protects natural resources and minimises environmental damage. By implementing sustainable practices in our business, we contribute to maintaining a liveable and healthy environment for future generations.
In order to embed understanding about climate change within our business, a key facet of our approach is education of our team and key stakeholders. To this end, we have completed carbon literacy training to all UK-based staff in 2024 and have been awarded a bronze certificate for carbon literacy.
Responsible manufacturing
As a company, we aim to manufacture the highest quality flat roof systems, which offer a long service life to provide lower whole-life costs. By continually focusing on improving manufacturing processes for all of our products, we are able to further reduce raw material usage, waste, and emissions.
Closed rotation cooling
Many of our manufacturing plants use closed rotation cooling systems which dramatically reduce water consumption and avoid environmental pollution.
Recycled content in our products
Working closely with our suppliers and using data from extensive research, we have steadily increased the recycled content of many of our products without detrimental effects on their durability, performance, or longevity of service.
Packaging and site waste
At Bauder, we are working hard to reduce the amount of single-use plastic packaging that we utilise. However, it is vital that we ensure our products can be transported to site and handled without risk of damage to materials.
Protecting natural resources
Sustainable production means that the economic processes behind it are sensible and negative effects on the environment are minimised. At the same time, energy and natural resources should be protected.
Biodiversity and ecosystems
As experts in the field of green roofs, we are aware the crucial role of biodiversity and the the integrity of ecosystems. We recognise that our production processes and the materials used, in particular through the use of potentially hazardous chemicals, can affect these natural systems.
Production waste
By recycling production waste, we can reuse it directly in the manufacture of our products, reducing our dependence on new raw materials.
BauderECO FF is revolutionising PIR insulation
When biomass waste comprising residues from agriculture (plant stems, threshed corn cobs etc) becomes flat roof insulation for a sustainable future.
Sustainability at product level to support our environmental solutions of green roofs, blue roofs, and solar PV.
Environmental rooftop solutions
We can make a major contribution to protecting our environment and have a positive impact on the climate by ensuring all specifiers can consider a green roof, solar PV, and, for new build construction, the inclusion of a blue roof.
These roofing systems can promote biodiversity, generate green energy, and attenuate stormwater.
For refurbishment projects our technical diagnostics survey, moisture mapping, pinpoints areas needing full remedial action and those that do not, thus ensuring the solution we propose accurately defines the works required rather than assuming the entire roof needs replacing.

Tracie Reed, Marketing Director Every small change can make a difference.
We fully encourage all our clients and specifiers to work with, wherever possible, our digital documents to minimise the use of paper, and therefore other resources required to produce paper, to reduce environmental impact. This also ensures that the latest versions of all our information is available for inclusion in the decision making process and specification stage of a project.
Across our business we further encourage using emails in a sustainable and mindful manner to reduce our environmental footprint. An easy example of this is sharing documents in centralised locations rather than emailing as attachments, this is a far better way of working, especially with multiple people using the same file.
