Reinforced Bitumen Membrane systems
Robust polymer modified reinforced bitumen membranes (RBM) for durability and strength with system options for a tailored solution for each project.
Specifying a bitumen membrane system
Our solutions suit both new build and refurbishment projects. Key advantages of these systems are the lifespan and their ability to sustain foot traffic as well as loads associated with the installation and maintenance of a typical rooftop plant.
Installations follow Safe2Torch guidance for detail design where combustible materials are located.
We have adopted the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) across our portfolio to have information assessed for accuracy and clarity to ensure specifiers can rely on the data when selecting a Bauder RBM solution.
Outline of our RBM systems
- Five systems in the RBM portfolio of solutions for new build and refurbishment projects
- Safe2Torch detailing design
- Insulations for warm or inverted construction
- Online system and product evidence with up-to-date technical statistics, DoCs and DoPs, testing outcomes, certification, approvals, accreditations, and conformity assessment
- CCPI assessed system data
- Accessories, rooflights, and outlets complete the roof
- Comprehensive range of guarantee packages to suit project and cover requirements
- Fire testing per system build-ups
Achieving technical objectives

Why clients choose us
Customers choose us because of the way in which we do business, our robust advice on the right system, and our approach to delivering projects. We work alongside clients to deliver the best solution for a building from our broad portfolio of systems.
We assist you with the design of the detailing, write the specifications for the flat roof solution, and recommend suitable approved contractors to tender for the project.
The service is without charge, and we work with you to ensure your roof specification meets all your needs and that of the building.
Six steps is all it takes
Brief and consultation
You give us your remit either at your office or on-site. We will discuss the roofing project, your preferred system application, your budget and how the programme of work can be formulated.
Roof element proposal
Together we can determine which roofing system and specific build up will be optimal for each individual roof area on your project given the construction type, level of access and required performance.
Specification and detail design
You will receive the Bauder specification package that answers your brief and meets the needs of the building. As a specialist designer for our solutions, we work with the Principal Designer to include relevant standard detail drawings and other technical calculations.
Contractor selection
The Bauder approved contractors best placed to deliver your new roof will competitively price and tender for your project. Our national network of contractors undergo a rigorous selection process and their installers are trained specifically in the application of our systems, so you are ensured an expert installation.
Installation of the roofing solution
Once the Bauder approved contractor has been appointed, a pre-contract meeting will make sure that the project delivery is well coordinated. The works are closely monitored by Bauder site technicians with regular inspections and live time reports to ensure the quality and waterproof integrity of the roof.
Sign off and guarantee
A full final inspection is completed by our site technician team before the guarantee is issued.
Bauder’s service doesn’t just stop once the roof installation has been completed, we provide industry-leading guarantees on our products that are installed by our national network of approved contractors.
Green credentials
Bituminous roofing systems can be used for green roof build ups with a root-resistant cap sheet which stops the roots from penetrating the waterproofing system. The membranes are made from bitumen and polyester.
The BRE Green Guide to Specification gives our bituminous systems various generic ratings, depending on the type of deck construction and the support structure used. You can view the various different ratings in our Reinforced Bitumen Membrane Systems brochure.
Within our bitumen membrane waterproofing systems, we have the following EPD certificates for our membranes and PIR insulation:
- Bitumen Membranes S-P-00414
- PU Insulation - Mineral Fleece Facing EPD-IVP-20140206-IBE1-EN
- PU Insulation - Aluminium Facing EPD-IVP-20140207-IBE1-EN
Our products in practice
We are committed to reducing the impact our manufacturing has on the environment as well as how our products can support the environment through the reduction of energy usage, recycling and reusing.
The BauderPIR insulation has extremely high thermal efficiency and is CFC and HCFC-free. It has zero ODP. As part of our PIR insulation manufacturing process, offcuts and waste are readily recycled and used in the production of hand cleansers and decking materials.
Bitumen is the primary raw material used in the production of bituminous waterproofing membranes. It is a byproduct of oil refining and is essentially the waste material of this petrochemical process and therefore has little additional detrimental effect on the environment.
We utilise a shredder to recycle any offcuts and waste bituminous membranes back into production. When roofs are replaced, the bituminous layers can be incinerated for heating and electricity production
