New mech-fixed single ply roof at Bauder UK headquarters delivers environmental benefits
Company Updates, Sustainability, Projects
Installation is underway of a new mechanically fastened single ply roofing system as part of the full refurbishment of Bauder’s Landseer Road UK headquarters in Ipswich. The comprehensive overhaul of the building supports Bauder’s significant growth while enhancing its functionality, energy efficiency, and sustainability performance.
Reflecting Bauder’s commitment to sustainable construction, the roof’s mechanically fastened design incorporates circular economy principles to deliver environmental benefits including lower embodied carbon and compatibility with solar PV.
In addition to a new metal deck, BauderTEC DBR 06 air vapour control layer (AVCL), and BauderTHERMOFOL U 18 FR PVC membrane, the roof build‑up incorporates the innovative BauderECO FF PIR insulation. Produced using the biomass balance approach and made from up to 80% biomass and renewable inorganic materials, ECO FF significantly reduces the roof scheme’s whole‑life embodied carbon, achieving as much as 75% less embodied carbon of other standard PIR boards currently available in the UK market.
Using a mechanically fixed system supports circular economy goals, limits waste and further reduces the scheme’s whole-life embodied carbon due to the roof layers’ ease of disassembly at the end of serviceable life which makes components simpler to reuse or recycle.
The roof utilises a 1.8-mm membrane and will be fully compatible with a BauderSOLAR photovoltaic (PV) array to be installed once the waterproofing is completed, allowing the production and use of renewable energy at the Landseer Road site.
Installed by Bauder‑approved contractors Voland Roofing, the new roof forms part of wider renovations and system upgrades at Bauder’s Ipswich headquarters, where additional decarbonisation measures – such as air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging - ensure the site reflects the company’s sustainability standards while showcasing its latest roofing technologies to industry partners.
