Milton Keynes Data Centre
This refurbishment delivered a full warm roof upgrade to replace the ageing build‑up, improving fire performance and thermal efficiency while establishing a resilient roof structure designed to support a photovoltaic system.
Synopsis
The refurbishment at Milton Keynes Data Centre upgraded the flat roof to replace an outdated build up that included polystyrene insulation and no longer met required fire or thermal standards. The objective was to achieve BROOF(t4) fire classification, improve the U value of the roof and create a suitable platform for a photovoltaic installation aimed at reducing electricity consumption. Working on an operational data facility meant the roof had to be stripped and replaced in a controlled sequence to maintain protection of the environment below.
The new specification adopted a BTRS warm roof system, designed to deliver improved thermal performance, enhance fire resistance and long term waterproofing integrity over the existing metal deck. The upgraded system provides a more robust construction with increased insulation levels to support energy efficiency targets and offers a secure, consistent surface appropriate for the installation of a PV array. The completed scheme delivers a significant improvement in overall performance, replacing the ageing build up with a modern warm roof solution that delivers reliable long term performance for the site
