Primary School Students Build Their ‘Eco Abode’ and Win Contest

Groups of students aged between eight and ten from partnership primary schools across Eastbourne were challenged to design an eco-friendly house as their entry into the ‘Green Technology House Building Competition’. Their entry into the ‘Green Technology House Building Competition’ was supported by Clarke Roofing Southern Ltd, a Bauder approved contractor, with Bauder donating the green roof system.

Clarke Roofing Southern Ltd worked with seven children from Shinewater Primary School on the design and construction of an Eco House the children named ‘Eco Abode’. Their collaborative entry comprised a quarter sized house featuring the Bauder XF 301 Sedum Blanket Extensive Green Roof System to bring their design to life and contribute to the success of their submission. This system contributes to the ‘Green Technology’ as the 11 species of sedum are grown in the blanket to ensure plant diversity. It was the most suitable green roof system for this project due to its lightweight properties.
This initiative was organised by EcoEd 2030 and Eastbourne Borough County Council as a part of Eastbourne’s pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030.

EcoEd 2030 is a network focused on supporting schools and other education institutions in Eastbourne reduce their carbon footprint and access eco-resources and ideas as part of Eastbourne’s Carbon Neutral 2023 campaign.

The schools that entered the competition worked with local building companies to design a house that uses green technology. The size of houses submitted varied between a desk sized model through to a quarter of a life-sized house.

The outstanding submission won the ‘Green Technology House Building Competition’. Fantastic work from all those involved!
