Pitched Green Roofs

Above 5 degrees roofs are considered to have a pitch which may affect the design. Most vegetation will grow on quite sever slopes, but the designer must consider the practicalities of installing the green roof and just as importantly how the roof is to be maintained.

As the pitch gets steeper the aesthetics are particularly important as the roof surface is likely to be visible from the ground. On pitches above 30 degrees the roof will be hard to walk on and therefore more difficult to maintain.

As the pitch increases so does the risk of the landscape moving. This is usually countered by the fitting a mechanical stop in the form of battens fixed to the roof deck and encapsulated within the waterproofing build up.
